The Coopers

assorted color wall paint house photo

See them moving into the house across the street,
Happy for their brand new home and future friends to meet.
fresh paint & carpet have them claim it for their own,
Never thinking about the sweet ones who used to call it home.

They never knew the older couple who loved so sweetly there;
She adored that home so gracefully and gave it so much care.
They never saw him doing yardwork, or walk around the block,
Picking up his papers, and finding friends to talk.

They won’t know of her social clubs, or that she once taught school;
They never heard about His old days, that my children thought so
cool.
He remembered when J.C Penney moved to town
Back then when it was the only shopping place around.

I will always see them as they toddled all about,
She in her stockings and he in his hat, like they were going out.
When we were young, we always thought that things would never
change…
That all we knew and all we loved would always stay the same

But seasons come and seasons go and washes all away,
The neighborhood is changing more with each passing day.
As through my window across the street I peer,
I realize that someday, another will stand here.

And like the Coopers, I will be gone too,
It’s circle of life, that much I know is true.
Time has passed and they are gone, but not forgotten here.
As long as I live across the street, they’ll be remembered dear.
