Much of my poetry was written in workshops or as an assignment of a certain style. I studied online under a tutor for several years. She schooled me in rhyme, rhythm, and different styles. I joined contests to create something for pictures. This style, called Ecphrasis, is a favorite of mine. Many pictures were simple, like an open window, or curtains blowing. It was challenging and fun to write for them. I also joined in on poetry games. For example, someone would write a simple Haiku (consisting of three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables) The game was to take that person’s last word and use it as my first word to create a new Haiku. The next person would use my last word etc. I really enjoyed my time in the poetry forum and still remain Assistant Director. As time has gone by the active membership has dwindled. I still go in from time to time.
