Lessons from A Sunflower Field

Fields of reverent faces
gazing upward toward the sun
Humbly basking in its light
as day is first begun

Standing at attention
like ranks of soldier flowers
In unison they turn their heads
throughout the daylight hours

Devotedly they move their gaze
In tribute to the sun
From east to west and back again
Before their journey’s done

As day gone the twilight comes
over fields the darkness spreads
They close their petal eyes in prayer
and bow their reverent heads

Thankful for a day well spent
Their weary fingers curl
Preparing for the coming dawn
when they again unfurl

Across the fields these blankets of joy
are devoted congregation
From them we can a lesson learn
in perfect dedication

Let us be like the sunflower field
and focus on the One
With joy and perfect diligence
may we always follow the Son
