For our 56th wedding Anniversary
The day we met, you claimed your bride,
So certain, fearless, slightly wild;
I thought, “This man has lost his mind,”
And laughed at you – half shocked, half smiled.
Yet in your gaze there stood a vow,
Unshaken, steady, clear and true;
What sounded bold and reckless then
Was heaven’s quiet plan for two.
Through years that tested heart and home,
When storms would press with heavy hand,
I never faced the dark alone –
You were my rock, my steady land.
My confidante, my champion strong,
Protector, friend, devoted guide;
You praised my dreams, you sang my worth,
My constant shelter at my side.
And now as time has marked its trace,
And strength is measured differently,
You bridge the gaps without complaint,
With patient love that steadies me.
Still detained since that first brave day,
No parole sought, no wish to flee;
My truest love, my safest place –
Right here is where I’ll always be
Forever yours, Cassandra
