Christmas Present

gift box lot

Papers of foil, in red, green and gold
The scent of fresh pine in the air;
The first Christmas story continually told,
Red plaid ribbons in a little girl’s hair.

Gingerbread cookies, and frosted ones too,
Candy canes, chocolate and unopened toys
Gifts piled high-a fine preview,
Especially magical for girls and boys.

By a warm Christmas fire, we snuggle so close,
Sipping hot chocolate, and touching bare toes,
Caring and sharing, special gifts that we chose,
Admiring the stockings all hung up in rows.

Wishing this magical time could last all year long,
And not be over at the end of the season.
With goodies, and sharing, and a sweet Christmas song,
always recalling the rhyme and the reason.
